The short version: Check a Carry-On has no user accounts and no sign-up. The bag calculator runs entirely in your browser. We use Google Analytics to measure traffic, and we earn money from Amazon affiliate links and Google AdSense ads — all of which use cookies. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland we ask for your consent before any analytics or advertising cookies are set, and you can change your choice any time via Cookie Settings in the footer.
1. Who we are
Check a Carry-On ("we", "us") operates the website at checkacarryon.com (the "Site"), a free informational tool that compares luggage dimensions against airline carry-on limits. For privacy questions, contact us at privacy@checkacarryon.com. For visitors in the EEA/UK, we act as the data controller for the limited processing described below.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
None required. There are no accounts, logins, newsletter sign-ups or contact forms. When you type measurements into the "check a different bag" tool, that calculation happens locally in your browser — the values are not transmitted to or stored by us.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our hosting provider records standard server logs when you visit — your IP address, browser type and user-agent, the pages you request, referring URL and timestamps. We use these only to operate, secure and debug the Site. The Site is hosted on Vercel.
Cookies and similar technologies
-
Strictly necessary. We store a single value in your browser's local storage
(
cac_consent_v1) to remember your cookie choice. This is not used for tracking and is exempt from consent. -
Analytics (Google Analytics 4). With your consent, Google Analytics
(measurement ID
G-LSV7B02HTP) sets cookies and identifiers to measure how visitors use the Site — pages viewed, approximate location, device and referral source — in aggregate. - Advertising (Google AdSense). With your consent, Google and its partners set and read cookies and similar identifiers to serve and measure ads, including — where permitted — personalised ads.
- Affiliate (Amazon). When you click an Amazon product link, Amazon may set cookies to attribute any resulting purchase to us so we earn a commission. These are set by Amazon, on Amazon's domains, under Amazon's own privacy notice.
3. Advertising & Google AdSense
We display ads through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our Site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised ads at aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.eu (EU).
- For more on how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
- You can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
In the EEA, UK and Switzerland we use Google Consent Mode: advertising and analytics storage default to denied until you accept via our consent banner. If you reject, ads may still be shown but in a non-personalised, limited form.
4. Affiliate disclosure
Check a Carry-On participates in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program. We include links to products on Amazon, and as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases made through those links — at no extra cost to you. Product prices and availability shown on Amazon are determined by Amazon, not us.
5. How we use information
- To operate, maintain and secure the Site and prevent abuse.
- To display advertising and measure its performance (with consent where required).
- To attribute affiliate referrals so we receive applicable commissions.
- To understand aggregate usage and improve our content.
6. Legal bases (EEA/UK GDPR)

- Legitimate interests — for essential server logs, security, and keeping the Site running.
You can withdraw consent at any time using Cookie Settings in the footer; this does not affect processing carried out before withdrawal.

- access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you;
